Jul 13th
Hey all. Its been a very crazy 2 weeks.
July 4th came and went. It was amazing, despite poor planning.
I’m struguling for an interesting approach to this journal entry. That in itself is an interesting topic. A news article usually covers one major topic with minor details and annecdotes related to the news topic. But what happens when you want to communicate a bunch of little topics at once with no real relevance except for the fact that they happened?
July 4th weekend involved a failed trip to ground zero, a visit to Taste of Minnesota which was expensive as balls and not worth going to again, a boating trip with my grandparents, and some other minor things. Maybe I will just cover major events and then rattle off minor events after that.
Ground Zero is an industrial punk/goth nightclub which has its name put on the map for “Bondage Night”, a event where people volunteer to have minor physical pain done to them for the ammusment of people watching and themselves. I have been to it before, it rocked hardcore, so I planned on going again. Only I got the day wrong. Its on saturdays, not fridays. Furthermore, that weekend was the weekend for ‘CONvergence’ which is a yearly geek convention held in Minneapolis. It seems either everyone was out of town, with family, the Taste of Minnesota, or at CONvergence, so Ground Zero was empty. Fail. We are trying again for thiscoming Saturday. Hopefully it turns out. GZ bondage night is also “Girls Night”. I guess I must be the honorary girl for being invited along. Anyway, the girls outfits turned out amazing despite a lackluster evening: http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/8522/63689821146311851354311.jpg We made up for the night by driving helter skelter while listening to Aqua on the way home.
Next, we went to the taste of minnesota, which sucked equally as bad. With a name like ‘taste’, you’d expect to have some new flavors of food to explore, sort of like eating samples at costco or cub foods on a saturday. (this is reason enough to have a costco membership, by the way). The reality is you are at an overcrowded, messy venue where the best thing people are serving is $4 corn dogs. Its like a fair but crappier. I could make MUCH more badass food at home for a hell of alot cheaper. I’m never going to the taste again. Maybe I should hold a event called taste of brian’s kicthen, with live performances by Tyler’s sweet entertainment system playing Doctor Who. We made up for that lackluster event by holding a bonfire back at the house, where everyone got a little tipsy and squirly, and had alot of fun. I got to talk to my good friend Katelyn Lenehr till 4 in the morning when we both passed out about life and stuff (last few times we hung out few years ago before she got deployed we have done that). Katelyn has a good story. I love a person who is able to tell me about their past.
Sunday, I went boating with my grandparents. We took a pontoon up the St. Croix. I wanted to jump in the water over and over but nobody else was as interested in it as myself. Eventually I had an excuse to to explore a cave near a beach, and because someones boat stalled I jumped in to tie their boat to ours so we could tow them back. While this was happening, however, there was a tubing trip down the rum river (which we do frequently because its relaxing and free) where some of our friends decided to do some of the tubing adventure in the nude. This isn’t that big a deal, and I am told was alot of fun, but like any new thing that crops up in this group of friends, it caused endless drama after that. Theres the one or two squeaky wheels in this group that always end up spoiling everyones mood and ruining a good thing.
So the weekend was over, and when it was over we were all hit with a wave of depression and ensuing drama. I like to help people out when they are having a bad time, so I hear all the sides of every story. All I really have to comment on it all here was: Just because you aren’t having fun, doesn’t mean you have to stop other people from having fun. Live a little, damnit!
When I was down a few weeks ago, Catherine paid me an over the top awesome compliment that instantly snapped me out of my slump. It hit me rather than just talking to people about crappy thoughts and times they have, I could do more by doing unsolicited over the top complements on peoples personality. Each compliment I have handed out is personal and you will never hear it. But man, are they good. Its so nice to put a smile on someones face.
Minor other facts:
I’m really behind on work at work. Cole comes back in a few weeks. I am waiting patiently for the day we can go swimming at 12 AM (too cold now). My dog has way too much energy. I am worried about my budget on the house. I can’t make Defcon this year because I can not afford it. I may see harry potter tonight at midnight, if not I will see it tommorow. The literary device called a snowclone is cool. Tylers car is under the weather, we hope to get it fixed soon. Tonight is ‘guys night’. Amber is pregnant, everyone is super happy. My cat is super cute jumping around outside. I want to put up a fence for the yard before it gets cold again. Nickel has a new playmate, her name is Jinx, shes a Sibererian Husky, and is 2 or 3 months younger.

I had a weird dream last night where I came into possession of a TARDIS (the kind that blends in and works, it became a door to a set of PO boxes, which I used to go back to DEFCON 15. I wonder why my dreams always involve Doctor Who whenever I remember them lately.
I want to write but I am lacking creative spark. Maybe later tonight.
